Head Coach -
BRETT ACKERMAN
This is my fourth year coaching the Linfield girl’s tennis team
and it will be my third year as the head coach. I played four years of
varsity tennis for Chaparral High School, then two years for California
Baptist University. In the past few years, I have worked with the boys and
girls to bring 4 undefeated league championships, 1 CIF quarter-finalists, 3
CIF semi-finalists, and the girl’s 2010 CIF Championship to the Linfield
tennis program.
My goals for the girl’s
season are for all of them to improve their skills of tennis, to emphasize
the importance of good fitness, and to show them how every opportunity allows
them to work together as a team, helping them overcome any situation. I
expect the girls to work hard and to encourage each other while keeping each
other accountable for being prepared for each practice and match.
What I enjoy most about
coaching for Linfield is the ability to integrate Christ into my coaching of
the team. I love that we are able to pray before each match, and lead with a
Christ-like example at every competition. I enjoy being able to teach these
girls about the game of tennis, and it is my hope to prepare them for the
future on and off the tennis court.
My goals for the future
of girls tennis at Linfield are to make the team a place where any girl is
welcome to join, to develop an attitude in the girls so that they are not
afraid to work hard to improve their skills, and to facilitate a team
environment where the girls are able to have fun fellowshipping with each
other. By bringing back the overnight tennis camp and a service project this
year, I hope the girls are able to come together and experience Christ’s love
through their actions.
