HIGH SCHOOL FINE ARTS
Students participating in our American Sign Language Performance course will apply skills from music and dance interpretation, dramatic presentations, and set construction and design, and pair them with their ASL and Deaf studies. Students completing this innovative course are steps closer to joining theater groups designed specifically for ASL using Deaf patrons. This class is a unique opportunity to join two disciplines in a very creative environment. Film students will examine and appreciate film/video and the media of this age in a new light. Students are encouraged to critically think from a Christian point of view about themes, content, principles, and characters within the history of film. They will have the opportunity to produce a 3-6 minute video exploring different topics and genres. As they continue in advanced media productions, students will study planning, scripting, pre-production, production, lighting, sound, cinematography, editing, and post-production. Students who desire to develop musical skills for individual and ensemble playing of wind instruments and percussion should join the Linfield Band. In this program the emphasis is on sight-reading, literature preparation for festival and concert performances, and development of aesthetic and cultural values through comprehensive musicianship. This includes formula analysis, music theory, historical background, and stylistic interpretation. The Chapel Ministry Bible class is a one year practical application course for students involved in the Chapel Band and Sound/Tech ministries. Students lead worship, prepare weekly chapels, set up and tear down equipment, and provide sound/tech support as needed for guest speakers and outside groups. Classes consist of band rehearsal, media design, Bible study, and ministry and personal discipleship.
Theatre, film, band, and art are the highlights of the Linfield Fine Arts program. In the theatre course, students will learn the elements of acting, directing, and stagecraft. They will discover monologues, scenes, improvisation, and one-act plays. As they continue their studies in this program, they will perform in improv, scene selections, school productions, and technical support. The advanced theatre students will build a portfolio of work, and their final project will be showcased at the end of the semester.
