After prayerful consideration and an extensive nationwide search, we are excited to officially announce the selection of Marc Horton as Linfield’s new Head of School!
Marc has been a teacher and a principal at various times in his career, but he comes to Linfield from the Temecula Valley Unified School District, where he currently serves as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. However, many local residents might know him as the former principal of Great Oak High School. Under his leadership, Great Oak experienced tremendous growth and saw increasing numbers of students outperforming state and world averages in AP and IB programs. In fact, Marc was singled out in a list of over five hundred principals as Riverside County’s Principal of the Year in 2016!
Marc’s professional accomplishments in the valley have been quite impressive, but we are most excited about what he brings in terms of his collaborative style, visionary leadership, and innovative record. Marc has a comprehensive understanding of the needs of current students; he has the ability to engage our school community in a dynamic way, and he is committed to leading Linfield into the future while still honoring the Christ-centered mission of the school that has guided us since 1936.
While he is a great leader with remarkable qualifications, Marc also has a strong faith in Christ that translates into a strong love for people. He is a team builder and a good communicator, and he is committed to serving Linfield families in any way he can. He and his wife, Christie (a kindergarten teacher), have two daughters, a freshman in high school and a freshman in college. They have been attending Sunridge Community Church for nearly 20 years, and Marc serves as an elder there.
Marc says he is honored to be chosen for this position, and he is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. He says,
I can’t tell you how excited I am to bring together my faith and professional aspirations in an effort to glorify God at Linfield Christian School. My wife and I have spent our entire careers in education, dedicated to making a difference in young people’s lives, and we’re thrilled to now be able to do that from a Christian perspective. Linfield is committed to pursuing the standard of excellence in Christian education, and our goal is not just to prepare graduates for the best colleges and universities but to prepare them to be successful for life as they serve the Lord through their character and leadership. I’ve been heartened to see how faculty, staff, and board members are steadfastly devoted to delivering on this mission, and I feel called to be a part of that. I know that the community has been through a very tough time in recent years, and I’ve seen the incredible impact of Drake Charles’s leadership and inspirational style. He leaves behind a rich spiritual legacy that’s somewhat daunting for me to think about, but I believe God has a big plan for Linfield’s future, and I’m excited to play a role in it.
As you all know, Drake was so beloved by our Linfield family, and Marc knows he has giant shoes to fill (I think Drake wore a size 15!), but we believe he is someone who will humbly pick up where Drake left off and provide a seamless transition that safeguards the educational experience of our students, supports the ongoing professional excellence of our teachers, and protects the unique relational integrity of our community. Drake prepared us well for this moment, and he would remind us that Linfield is in God’s hands and that God’s hands are good.
We are excited for what the Lord will do through Marc’s leadership at Linfield Christian School as we continue to live into the mission to which we have been called. Please continue to pray for the school during this important time of transition. Marc will begin his tenure as Head of School on May 1, so make sure to welcome him and introduce yourself if you see him around on campus.
As always, we welcome your thoughts, concerns, and questions; you can reach out to members of Linfield’s school leadership team or e-mail the Board of Trustees at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In His service,
Terri Lee Delhamer
