Fine Arts at Linfield Christian School

Linfield Christian School celebrates the gift of creativity, as it is a reflection of the creative God who made us, and we seek to foster an environment of artistic possibility, one that inspires students and gives them an outlet for self-expression.

List of 3 items.

  • Elementary

    Art Appreciation
Students replicate artists’ paintings, including still life, flowers, landscapes, seascapes, and animals. They work with charcoal, oil and chalk pastels, poster and acrylic paints, watercolors, and mix a variety of mediums.

    Band and Orchestra
Elementary students are offered weekly instrumental lessons and full ensemble rehearsals if they choose to join the Elementary School Band or Orchestra. This program lays the foundation for later participation in Concert, Pep, Pit, and Jazz Bands.

    Musical Opportunities
All students have an opportunity to perform in the annual Christmas and Spring musicals. Fourth and fifth grade students also have  opportunities to join the chapel worship team and the honor choir.

  • Middle School

    Art
This class focuses on artistic elements such as line, texture, shape, color, value, and composition through painting. Students learn basic strategies to explore familiar objects and places in today’s culture.

    Theater
This performance-based course focuses on the fundamentals of drama, improvisation, and short scene work. Students even have a chance to write their own scenes and perform them for their final project; they can also audition for the Middle School musical.

    Band
Middle School Band students perform with the Concert Band and have the option of participating in the Jazz Band and Varsity Pep Band. Full-band rehearsals and weekly semi-private instrumental lessons are offered to anyone desiring to learn – no previous experience is necessary! In addition to going on a weekend tour, our bands participate in a variety of annual performances, including at the ACSI Band & Orchestra Festival and Linfield's Music Under the Stars event.
  • High School

    Visual Arts
Linfield’s Visual Art program covers the fundamentals of working in a variety of 2D and 3D media, producing drawings, paintings, sculptures, photography, and works of mixed media. Students learn the use of composition, contrast, form, line, perspective, and technique in analyzing the art of masters and through personal experience with exercises, projects, and original art works. Advanced students can opt for AP art courses, participate in local art shows, and compete for national awards and recognition.

    Music
Instrumental and vocal music students gain experience and sharpen performance skills through participation in a variety of high-achieving music ensembles ranging from pop/rock vocal groups, to jazz bands and pit orchestras, to large concert bands and vocal ensembles. In this program, the emphasis is on sight-reading, literature preparation for festival and concert performances, and development of aesthetic and cultural values through comprehensive musicianship. This includes form and analysis, music theory, historical background, and stylistic interpretation.

    Theater Arts
Theater Arts students learn the elements of acting, directing, and stagecraft. They prepare monologues and scenes, develop improvisational skills, and perform one-act plays. As they continue their studies, they may participate in up to four annual Linfield dramatic/musical productions in various capacities as actors, dancers, singers, costumers, makeup artists, set/prop designers, stage crew or technical team members.

    Film
In a world increasingly influenced and driven by visual media, it is important to know how to use the power of the image effectively. Our film program is designed to give students a chance to grow in their skills while offering  them a biblical worldview with which they can evaluate the prevailing messages presented in popular culture and entertainment. From film appreciation to film production and media classes, students learn about the history of cinema and get firsthand experience producing films and projects.

    Chapel Ministry
This Bible class is a one year practical application course for students involved in the Chapel Band and Sound/Tech ministries. Students lead worship, prepare weekly chapels, set up and tear down equipment, and provide sound/tech support as needed for guest speakers and outside groups. Classes consist of band rehearsal, media design, Bible study, ministry and personal discipleship.
